In the wind

Originally written February 2015.

My eyes glazed over the calm dark sea
The moon was glistening bright tonight
I could see the rays illuminating the soft soothing waves
The single-masted boat was slowly and tentatively getting farther from the shore
A single tear rolled down my face
I imagined her smiling at me
But now it was just still and serene
Still and serene and floating away
Her laughter plagued my mind
Just as how her cadaverous face looked me while I lightly brushed her cheek the day before
I thought I saw her hand waving at me from far within the sea
But it was only the single lofty rose on her chamber that seemed to be dancing in the wind
Dancing and enjoying itself
The wind gave it life
The moon gave it a spotlight
And she gave it a stage
The rose danced and danced
Gracefully and seductively
The wind did not seem to enjoy all the flailing
And with a strong gust
Propelled the rose into the sea
Never to be seen again
I had momentarily forgotten about her
And now she seemed so far away
And she slowly and slowly faded into the dark and cold blue horizon
I looked at my watch and it was getting late
Slowly turned my back and started walking back towards the car
Keys in one hand
And in the other
A small picture of her smiling at me that kept fluttering in the wind.
